Argentina citizenship by investment 2026: legal path, amounts and official sources

Argentina citizenship by investment 2026: legal path, amounts and official sources
12 min read

“Buy an Argentine passport” is a common search phrase — and legally the wrong frame. Argentina has announced a citizenship-by-investment programme (Ciudadanía por Inversión): naturalisation through a relevant investment, after security and financial checks. This guide sticks to official government sources — no guaranteed outcomes, no sales hype. ArenOne walks beside that legal path: clarifying risks, documents and timing so your file stays honest and defensible.

What is the legal path?

In May 2025, emergency Decree DNU 366/2025 amended Citizenship Law 346 so foreigners making a “relevant investment” (inversión relevante) can seek naturalisation without a fixed prior residence period. The Ministry of Economy defines what counts as relevant, and an Agency for Citizenship-by-Investment Programmes was created under that ministry.

Decree 524/2025 (July 2025) set the procedure: apply to the Agency, undergo financial and security review, receive a reasoned recommendation to the National Migration Directorate (DNM), which then decides within 30 business days.

  • Legal base: Citizenship Law 346 as amended by DNU 366/2025
  • Procedure: Decree 524/2025 — Agency → security/financial bodies → Migration
  • Outcome if approved: citizenship — not a purchased ID document

Official amounts (October 2026)

Amounts were not fixed in the decrees until Economy Minister Luis Caputo announced them on 2 October 2026 at Argentina Week in Paris, with applications opening in Q4 2026.

  • Main applicant: USD 350,000 non-refundable contribution to the National Treasury, or USD 800,000 in a programme-specific government bond
  • Spouse or child aged 18–25 (unmarried, childless): USD 100,000 to the Treasury
  • Child under 18: USD 25,000 to the Treasury
  • Official family example (main + spouse + two minors): USD 500,000
  • Funds via the formal banking system with AML/CFT standards aligned with OECD/FATF

How ArenOne supports you on the legal track

ArenOne immigration and investment guidance alongside the official legal path

We do not sell passports or guarantee approvals. ArenOne’s role is to explain the law clearly, map official sources, organise source-of-funds and family structure with you, and — once the programme truly opens — help you build a clean, defensible file.

For Iranian applicants, cross-border banking and KYC friction is often harder than the headline amount. Early advice before any transfer matters.

  • Match budget and family structure to official fee tiers
  • Document checklist, translations and source-of-funds narrative
  • Explain DNU court risk before any financial commitment
  • Compare European alternatives if timing or legal risk does not fit

Legal risk you should know

DNU 366/2025 was declared null by the Cámara Nacional Electoral in the Yang case on 30 June 2026; the government has said it will go to the Supreme Court. Until a final ruling or a law passed by Congress, the programme’s legal footing is not settled. We say so up front.

Applications are not open yet; forms and admin fees may still be completed later. Any pitch that says you can “buy an Argentine passport today” does not match the government’s own announcement.

Passport strength and how it fits immigration & investment

Argentina’s passport typically ranks around 15–16 on the Henley Index with roughly 168–169 destinations visa-free or on arrival — including Schengen and the UK. For someone also weighing European immigration, property investment or study residence, this is a parallel option — not an automatic substitute for Greece Golden Visa or Portugal D7.

ArenOne looks across immigration, residency, property and hotel investment, boarding schools and camps so the path matches the family’s budget and goal — not a single slogan.
